Local SEO for Beginners: Get Found by People Nearby

Search engines try to answer a question: who is the best match for this person, right here, right now? Local SEO is about making that answer easy for them to give about you.

Start with the basics

  • Say where you work. Mention your town, suburb or service area in plain text on your site, including your homepage and contact page.
  • Make each service its own page. A page called “Boiler repair” is easier to match than a paragraph hidden in a list.
  • Write clear page titles. “Boiler repair in Leeds | Company name” says more than “Home”.

Claim your online listings

Set up and complete your Google Business Profile and any directories relevant to your trade. Use the exact same name, address and phone number everywhere, so the details agree.

Collect real reviews

Ask happy customers to leave an honest review, and reply to them politely. Never buy or invent reviews. They damage trust and can get you penalized.

Make your site easy to read

  1. Make sure it works well on phones.
  2. Keep it fast.
  3. Use descriptive image names and alt text.
  4. Make sure your contact details are written as text, not only inside an image.

Be patient

Local SEO is a slow build, not an overnight switch. Consistency over months matters more than any one trick.

Keep it simple

You do not need an expert for these basics. Work through the list above, and if you want a hand, mention it on our discovery call.
